Work in Progress
In all my custom stained glass work, I start with a specific custom design request - a photograph, a sketch or drawing, any type of artistic representation or just an idea, a client’s fancy. I apply my own personal vision, put it in a basic sketch and consult with the client.
After we agree on the design, I consider the structural requirements, glass color and the various effects of light, texture and shape. I cut and grind the glass and lay out the pieces, continuously readjusting the fit. Using the Copper Foil Technique first developed by Tiffany, I foil the outer edges of each piece and refit and solder them together.
Depending on the color combination of the piece, I mix and apply the patina color tone on the solder line that best blends with and defines the piece. After cleaning it, I build the frame.
Finally, it gets a polish and antioxidant compound.
